چکیده
The detection of the first exoplanet paved way into era transit photometry space missions with a revolutionary photometric precision that aim at discovering new exoplanetary systems around different types stars. With this high precision, it is possible to derive very accurately radii exoplanets which crucial for constraining their type and composition. However, requires an accurate description host stars, especially center-to-limb variation intensities (so called limb darkening) as affects planet-to-star radius ratio determination. Measuring Stellar Limb Darkening by Gravitational Microlensing
Observations of microlensing transit events can be used to measure the limb darkening of the lensed star. We discuss the advantages and drawbacks of several microlensing light curve inversion methods. The method of choice in this work is inversion by means of decomposition of the stellar surface brightness profile. We construct an ideal basis by principal component analysis of brightness profil...
متن کاملComputing Limb Darkening Coefficients from Stellar Atmosphere Models
We explore the sensitivity of limb darkening coefficients computed from stellar atmosphere models to different least-squares fitting methods. We demonstrate that conventional methods are strongly biased to fitting the stellar limb. Our suggested method of fitting by minimizing the radially integrated squared residual yields improved fits with better flux conservation. The differences of the obt...
متن کاملAsymmetries in Limb Darkening
The cause of the asymmetries in limb darkening reported by Neckel and Labs (1987) is discussed on the basis of new, stray-light-free observations, and found to be of instrumental origin.
متن کاملA new non-linear limb-darkening law for LTE stellar atmosphere models
A new non-linear limb-darkening law, based on the Least-Squares Method (LSM), is presented. This law is able to describe the intensity distribution much more accurately than any of the old ones given that the differences I(model)-I(fitting) are of some order of magnitude smaller than those derived from other approximations. This new law shows several advantages: it represents well the intensity...
متن کاملUsing Stellar Limb-Darkening to Refine the Properties of HD 209458b
We use multi-band photometry to refine estimates for the planetary radius and orbital inclination of the transiting planet system HD 209458. We gathered 1066 spectra over four distinct transits with the STIS spectrometer on the Hubble Space Telescope using two gratings with a resolution R = 1500 and a combined wavelength range of 290− 1030 nm. We divide the spectra into ten spectrophotometric b...
